Hello and welcome to my website. My name is Shirley Wright and I paint portraits and commissions in my loft studio at home in Swindon, Near Dudley.
I studied fine art at Bradford College of Art, in Yorkshire and for as long as I can remember I have been fascinated and excited by the wonderful and diverse subject of art.
I was always sketching portraits from a very early age, and it was my heartfelt wish that one day I would be able to paint like some of the old Masters.

I have found faces intriguing all my life; reflecting the complexity of the human nature and all our moods and feelings. The undisputable fact that every single one of us has our very own look, aura, feel, essence........ and capturing all those has been an absolute joy to me.
In 1996 when I was able to leave my office job and begin working as an artist it was quite simply a dream come true.
Since then my work has been exhibited at the Millenium Dome and Ely Cathedral as well as various art galleries throughout West Yorkshire, the Midlands and Cambridgeshire, where I lived for six years prior to moving to Swindon in South Staffordshire.
I have been painting commissions professionally now for the past 10 years and, athough I have painted hundreds of commissions, each one has it's own individual qualities and I never fail to feel excited at the prospect of my next piece.
I primarily started out purely as a portrait painter, but I have been able to diversify my art and develop a versatility in creating bespoke artwork ranging from pastel portraits to public oil paintings, from mosaics to pub signs, in order to fulfill my client's individual needs. I have a varied client base and I am delighted to say that my customers come from all walks of life.
I also teach fine art to a splendid bunch of people who have become good friends through coming to my Friday morning class in Swindon, some of them for the past five years. I also teach privately to one or two particularly promising young artists. A lifelong love of painting has made me want to share the experience and I have found teaching an inspiration.
I am just as happy painting in Oil, Acrylic, Pastel and charcoal. I have also completed a number of mosaic pieces, both commercially and in a teaching capacity.
I take commissions for portraits, paintings and commercial art of almost any kind and thoroughly relish the challenge and the variety this allows me.
My portraits and paintings make very thoughtful and extra special gifts which have been very well received over the years. I have been told many times that my portraits have been the best Christmas present ever and I have had numerous recipients phone me to tell me in glowing terms that their painting has way surpassed their expectations.
I fully guarantee all my work, so if you are anything less than delighted with the finished product, you do not have to pay. I am pleased to say that I never had an unhappy client. In fact most of them have come back to me for additional paintings, or they have recommended me to their friends and families. All my paintings come to you framed and ready for hanging in a frame of your choice and I supply this service FREE OF CHARGE.
So if you have something special in mind for me to paint for you or for one of those people you love - please do not hesitate to contact me NO OBLIGATION WHATSOEVER on 01384 270721 or email me on:
